Symptoms Of Carpet Beetle Infestation
If you suddenly notice some of your woolens or linen items have become damaged and are falling apart, there is a good chance that you may be infested with carpet beetles. If the items were stored in an closet, basement or other storage area then it might not be so obvious at first.
Carpet beetle larvae do not discriminate between natural and synthetic fibers. They can be found in the nests of birds, rodents such as rats and mice or insects as well as on flowers where they feed upon pollen that is carried inside by their adult counterparts.
Carpet beetles are able to fly which means it’s possible for them to get all over your house from outside sources like cut flowers or laundry baskets without you even knowing until you find one crawling around!
How To Get Rid Of Carpet Beetles
To get rid of these pesky little pests, vacuum the carpets thoroughly to get rid of any larvae. If you have a cedar chest or other storage that is infested, then replace the items and seal it shut. Vacuum your walls and other hard to reach places to get rid of any eggs or crumbs they may have left behind.

Preventing Future Infestations
If you store any woolen items, make sure they are stored in an airtight container. Do not smoke inside your home or if possible try to avoid smoking in your home. Cigars and cigarettes are also highly attractive to carpet beetles so keep them in an airtight container as well.
If you notice that the items damaged by carpet beetles usually belong to one person, then it might be a good idea to go over your house with that individual and make sure there is not any more of their belongings in the house.
Carpet beetle removal might be an embarrassing situation for anyone but it is better to know and treat carpet beetles in the beginning than to wait until they have left your woolens destroyed and riddled with holes.
